Throwing the Dice

The insistant whisper of the dice
begging to be cast
But I always hesitate
held back by the past

Take my hand in yours
it’s the only way
if you make me throw the dice
maybe I can play.

I won’t weigh the risk this time
only think of gain
you won’t let me hold a turn
waiting to resolve the pain

But I can’t help but watch them fall
I can’t help but be afraid
you’ll simply have to hold my hand
until the turn is played

And if I start to hesitate
don’t let me be alone
please remember why I’m scared
the life I’m gambling is my own
