I am so sorry that this is something you have to go through, anon, that’s terrible.
Luckily there are definitely ways for you to pay for college without your parents help. You’ll need to talk to your school counselor for help getting more resources, but here’s what I can tell you.
1. You can get student loans if you can get a co-signer. Anyone who will cosign with you will do. A grandparent, an aunt, a generous neighbor, etc.
2. There is a LOT of student aid for kids with low income, and if your parent won’t help you attend college then YOU COUNT. There is paperwork involved but you can basically get a waiver that financially emancipates you from your parents, which will give you access to all kinds of federal and state level aid.
3. Its okay to go to community college, if that’s all you can afford, especially if they have a dorm system. If they don’t, look into low income housing, and rooms for rent in houses.
4. IT IS OKAY TO GO TO ONE YEAR OR ONE SEMESTER OF COLLEGE IN A FAR AWAY STATE JUST TO GET AWAY FROM YOUR PARENTS. I personally give you permission to go to college on the other side of the country for a little while and then drop out and get a job there just so you can get the initial push to get away from your parents. You are not bad if you drop out of college and never go back, or go back and finish later.
