>> what’s wrong with the person saying a parent should be able to control their childs intakes? /gq
>>i want to see both povs because i’m just confused. it’s a parent who decides how they want to raise their kid, yes. but i also understand that a parent can brainwash their kids into thinking a specific way (forgot the big word for it)
Because when someone believes that a parent should be able to control their child’s reading material, that means:
👉 they can restrict them from ever seeing material that shows queer or trans characters or depicts being queer or trans in a positive light.
👉They can restrict their access to sex education.
👉they can restrict them from ever learning about science and medicine that disagrees with their parents faith.
👉they can restrict them from reading any books that would help an abused child realize that their situation is abnormal and abusive.
any time a parent wants to restrict the reading material a child has access to, it is about exerting control on a child and forcing that child to conform to the parent’s worldview, rather than allowing the child to build their own understanding of the world.
Any time a parent controls what reading material their child has access to it is about controlling their child’s mind.
